Russian Government Backs Increased Fines for Repeat Tobacco Sales to Minors

The Russian government backs increased fines for repeat sales of cigarettes, vapes, and other tobacco products to minors, as reported by TASS referencing a cabinet document.

The government is ready to support the bill with revisions.

Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the LDPR and author of the initiative, noted that some vendors risk fines for profit. Currently, selling tobacco to minors incurs fines up to 60,000 rubles for individuals, 300,000 rubles for officials, and 600,000 rubles for organizations.

Slutsky proposes tougher penalties for repeated violations, with fines potentially reaching 200,000 rubles for individuals, 400,000 rubles for officials, and 800,000 rubles for companies if the bill passes.

Failure to deter with fines could lead to a 90-day suspension of an organization’s activities.

The cabinet clarified that fine increases should rely on statistics, though this information was absent in the bill’s explanatory note. Overall, the government supports the bill.

Previously, new rules for apartment remodeling were enacted in Russia, specifying the concept of remodeling.
